( Japanese : ワンピース, Romani: Wan Pīsu) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda . The manga has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since August 4, 1997; The single chapters are published in tankōbon volumes by Shueisha with the first edition being December 14, 1997, and the 102nd volume being released April 2022. One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy , a young boy whose body acquires the properties of rubber after accidentally eating a Devil Fruit.(ocean fruit according to the official Arabic dubbing), and his assorted crew of pirates, called the Straw Hat Pirates. Luffy explores the ocean in search of the greatest treasure known as "One Piece" to become the second Pirate King.
The seasons were adapted into an original animation video (OVA) produced by Production IG in 1998, and an anime series produced by Toei Animation , which began airing in Japan in 1999. Since then, the still-running series has broadcast a total of 1,027 episodes. In addition, Toei Animation has released fifteen films, an OVA, and five special episodes. Many companies have created many types of goods such as trading cards and a large number of video games . It entered the Guinness Book of World Records with the "Most Comic Book Series Published and Printed by a Single Author" after the December 2014 figures, in which the manga achieved 320,866,000 copies in print worldwide. In 2008, One Piece became the most popular manga series .[2] In 2010, Shueisha announced that it had sold over 260 million copies of the One Piece manga to that point; Volume 61 (Battle of Marineford) set a new record for the highest first-edition commodity record of any book in Japan with 3.8 million copies (the previous figure belonged to Volume 60 with 3.4 million copies).
